Hi Thomas: What version of LO are you using? I also had the problem you were referring to (I'm running Linux), but it was fixed in Version: 5.1.3.2, as I reported when filing Bug 99829 (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99829).
As usual, that "fix" also introduced another bug, but that too was fixed in the subsequent release. I'm now running LO Version: 5.1.5.2 and have no more issues with the sidebar.
