Hi :) Actually i did get the same results as you on Ubuntu 14.04 and LibreOffice 4.4.1.
I've not tried many layers but if i close 2 documents and then open either one of them or something else then the newly opened document uses the same place and size as whichever document i happened to close last. I'm not sure if filling in the; File - Properties - Description with some spaces and stuff makes any difference but i think that is the usual odd thing that makes it behave better.
