Hi :) Rtf is a proprietary format that was developed by Microsoft with the promise that it would be compatible with everything vaguely relevant and would be an easy format to implement. Much the same promises that MS are making of the DocX (etc) formats now. It never quite worked as promised and there was even a court case about it which MS didn't appear to win. Regards from Tom :)
