Ok, just made a test and creating in about:config a new boolean toggle browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit set to false helps also on Linux. I tried it on my system with Mozila and Linux, and with the value set to false, it opens the file and allows entering numbers. It might be that others don't check the status until you go to save it?
