Here is how i would troubleshoot to find out.

CloudStack Storage System VM (SSVM), checks if template exists on primary datastore, if it does, it will link clone, if not, it will deploy to primary storage and then link clone (or full clone, depending if you have it enabled or not).

This is the part where it fails. To understand where the problems is, SSH into SSVM, and view the output of /var/log/cloud/some-filename.log

Also, try running this command on SSVM to see if issues are firewall or routing related watch 'netstat -antup' - look for time_wait and other non-established attempts to your vcenter

I would suspect a firewall related issue.

Sure.

vSwitch0 (used for management)
portgroup called cloud-management with the mgmt ip address of the esx host

vSwitch2 (used for Storage)
portgroup called cloud-storage with the ip address of the storage nic used to
access nfs storage

dvSwitch0 (used for public and guest traffic)

as near as I can tell management and public/guest work ok. I'm having trouble with my
first vm - I get a message in my vmware client that says "Deploying OVF
Template" when I first try to spin the vm. This eventually times out.
Cloudstack has downloaded the vmware Centos template automatically and this is
what I am trying to use

Oddly, I am able to build a vm from an ISO.

Any ideas?

Perhaps you can give us an example on how network is layed out as well as
vswitches and portgroups.

Thanks

hi Guys,

I'm trying to set up a vmware cluster with a dedicated storage network.

Is this possible?

What I can't get my head around is in the zone settings in the UI for
storage, I can put the vSwitch number in the entry for vmware. Ie.
vSwitch2

However, in vcenter, the ip address that accesses my nfs storage is tied to the port
group ie. "cloud-storage"

Which entry do I need to enter in the zone settings?

Cheers
Len
