I think StatisticsBrokerPlugin class can be used for this purpose. To retrieve stats on the broker send a empty message to ActiveMQ.Statistics.Broker (Queue or Topic) with a replyTo set to the destination you want the stats returned to.
But using this I am not sure you can log stats into the log file. Someone from ActiveMQ developer team can help us with this.
