You can also simplify your cleanup method as follows:

    void cleanup() {
        if (connection != NULL) {
            connection->close();
        }
        delete destination;
        destination = NULL;
        delete consumer;
        consumer = NULL;
        delete session;
        session = NULL;
        delete connection;
        connection = NULL;
    }
