Mayby the same reason as for the bug 
https://issues.apache.org/activemq/browse/AMQ-1702 ??

(Not releasing statements in the DB-Lock. It's fixed in 5.2-SNAP)

this might not be related to the pool, but the fact that statements and 
resultsets are not closed.
