oops, activemq 4.1.0. i got rid of the durable subscribers, it was just a testcase and it was too much trouble. i had a quick debug, it looks like the multicast discovery agent was 'expiring' the found services too soon for some reason, ie a message would come in, be added to the multicast discovery 'services' table and then expire before the next multicast packet came in. i changed to RV and the behaviour stopped.
