This is exactly what I'm talking about. I wasn't aware that the "lang" attribute disappeared form xhtml between version 1.0 and 1.1, I guess that's where the problem arose. One poster said "Current browsers don't even handle XHTML 1.0 properly so moving to 1.1 isn't workable." There's a good deal of truth there, there's no browser I'm aware of that enforces strict xhtml compliance when it sees a DOCTYPE statement specifying xhtml. If a browser did that, I think that a *lot* of pages that claim to be xhtml would fail.
