Core Shale seems very stable and I believe that we are near the first release.
Last I discussed with Craig, Clay would probably not make the Shale 1.0 
release.  The concern was that we didn't want to lock down the API when there 
was still allot of features being requested.  It's not as well tested as we 
would like to see too.
Much of the recent activity for Clay has been in response to feature requests 
on the struts mailing lists.    
I have one big refactoring that I would like to get in soon.  The attributes 
"set" node in the XML metadata has a couple attributes that are very confusing 
("useMethodLateBinding" and "useValueLateBinding").  I think these attributes 
can be combine into a single "hasValueBinding" attribute but I'd like to hear 
discussion first.
I think that clay has allot of potential.  I hope you consider it and 
participant in its shaping.
