Welcome to the world of technology. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the simple fact is that it changes. Frequently and massively, and often times in a manner more like fashion than science (in contrast to Craig's response). Developers have ADD, and chase after every shiny object they see. On the bright side, it is somewhat cyclical. When I finished school in the early 90's client-server VB apps were king. Next came the web. Now we are looking at fatter RiA (Vic's favorite flavor du juor!) and next we'll trim them down to make them run nicer on cell phones, then the phones will get beefier and we'll get back to fatter clients, then we'll trim them down to run on watches or chips embedded in our sunglasses or toenails. Get used to it, try to predict it to some extent, and you'll do fine. If you are looking for a job that doesn't change...bad news: This is not it.
