Of course the new JDK 1.5 allows JDNC and JNLP security sandbox access to the printer (if you did RiA).

I don't know of any way you can drive the user's printer. The javascript "print()" method will pop up a print dialog, but it wouldn't be asynchronous, and in any case, it would print the document that called the method -- don't know how you'd do that in a PDF.

Don't most users have printing down well enough that you can just instruct them to download your file and print it?
