U're into the realm of "automation", formerly known as "OLE automation", where u're basically writing VB-like code using the PowerPoint object model (documented in "Vbappt8.hlp", which ships on the Office CD, but doesn't get installed), but calling it from another language, like Java/Powerbuilder/VB.
I've used it from PowerBuilder and VB, where its relatively straightforward, but when I tried to do it from Java (2 years ago), the best option at the time seemed to be to use OpenOffice Writer instead of MS Powerpoint. OO Writer has a Java interface, but I found the API impossible to work with. The sample Writer code produced presentations were were fairly easily and accurately converted to and from Powerpoint though, if thats any consolation. It may be possible now to use JNI to access the PowerPoint object model directly.. I can't really help u there...
