Hi Mich, You could look at http://www.exasol.com/. It works very well with Tableau without the need to extract the data. Also in V6, it has the virtual schemas which would allow you to access data in Spark, Hive, Oracle, or other sources.
May be outside of what you are looking for, it works well for us. We did the extract route originally, but with the native Exasol connector it is just a performant as the extract.
