writing the US version to the file but displaying a different one when

Switching the system locale to USA makes it work, like you suggested.
It would be good if some kind volunteers could help us crowd source the
list of localised varients of the built-in formats which change! It'd need
a bit of work, since there's lots of locales to check for, but it would
help for your problem in future...
