I suspect that the problem may be caused by differences between the two installations of Excel. You see, Excel uses the font defined for the Normal style to calculate the widths of the columns and it may be - that is MAY as i cannot see the two different installations of course - that the users have changed the fonts used for the Normal style.
Take a look here for a better explanation - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/214123 To check this, simply open each installation of Excel and see which font is assigned to the Normal style. If this does not fix it, then post again to this thread to let us know.
