Funny that nobody has ever asked for this feature: it's the most widely
used in education. I know BigBlueButton and Zoom have it, Jitsi and
Skype don't. I personally used BBB as a teacher and the others as a
student (being myself in a training as a teacher).
Speaking of BBB by experience: Participants get sent into another room
either random or according to the selection by the teacher, who also
decides how many new rooms he wants and how long they should go for.
After that time the rooms end automatically, which is kind of annoying
because they could be in the middle of something and need just a few
extra seconds and they get interrupted. On the other hand, when the
teacher says it's time to go back to the main room, so should it be,
meaning the moderator should have the possibility to extend the time by
one minute or so just by clicking a button, but the participant
shouldn't (now the has the ability to end the breakout session when he
wants, but not to extend it). An extremely annoying thing in BBB is that
when the teacher wants to visit another room, which he should do one
after the other to see what's going on there, he must do the "echo test"
again. Not only that, but even worse: every time you unmute yourself
(having muted when you visit another room in order not to hear what the
people in another room are saying and not to be heard by them talking to
someone else), the "echo test" starts again. It's good to know if your
microphone and audio works ahead of time, but it takes so much time that
it defies the whole purpose of the idea. I used the feature sparingly
just because of this, but know some colleagues have used it more. It
would also be helpful if the breakout rooms were opened in the
moderator's browser automatically in new tabs and the tabs were named
appropriately, so that he can decide which room he wants to visit and
choose the correct one just by looking at the name in the tab.
In Zoom I was at the student side of it and I found it great. You
discuss what you have to discuss and one minute before the end it tells
you that the session is about to end and counts down the remaining
seconds. I just wish this countdown window were moveable, so that if you
are in the middle of showing something it doesn't stick in the way.
I think it would be a great feature to implement and I know it also gets
used by some businesses in some meetings.
Regards, Andrea

Yes that is exactly what I mean. I was just curious if anyone had ever been
able to implement it. Thx!

Hello Jeffry,
by "breakout room" do you mean the possibility to move some of the participants
to another room and then get back?
it is impossible out-of-the-box :(
