Dear Tharrrk: Many thanks for all your comments. Much food for thought, and to digest, too much to take in, in just one gulp. After I digest all your comments, specially your personal ones (as they have been on my mind, but I'm not sure if someone with my needs (and knowledge) should get into a self administrated OS), I'd like to explain my fears to you, if you are willing, and maybe you can convince me I'm wrong, but I don't want to bore everyone in this thread with personal things.
Thanks for your non-advert, I do something similar to not get spammed, but a bit more simple: My name is R?i$c%h?a¿r&d, but some people keep on asking me where is my email. Regards, Richard -------------------------------------------- On Thu, 10/8/17, <[email protected]> wrote: Subject: Re: help configuration smtp server To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, 10 August, 2017, 15:43 Richard, The problem (probably) is that you either... a) don't have a public IP at all (your ISP is doing NAT=network address translation) and in that case you will never get it working from public internet; b) have a public IP assigned to router but don't have NAT enabled on your router. In that case you will have to set up a DNAT rules (if your router is able to do so) for every single port that OM requires, or just put a range 80-65535. At that very moment your "server" (did you mentioned windows?) is exposed to any attack from the internet. You may still be unable to access "yourself" over the public IP, due to some limitations in routing. You may also have an option to put your local ip (192....) into so-called DMZ, which basically does the same. Please read the basic docs for example here: http://whatismyipaddress.com/nat --- do not read below if you are not interested in personal opinions --- Anyway, you may still be limited by your internet connection upload speed and even if OM would finally work for you it may be hardly usable or would be a pain in the "S" for the invited. My best recommendation would be to invest few bucks and use VPS. Install the best tested OS (which one would you recommend btw @Maxim ? :) CentOS? Ubuntu Server LTS?), follow instructions step by step (https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OPENMEETINGS/Tutorials+for+installing+OpenMeetings+and+Tools) and YOU ARE DONE IN 30 MINUTES. I've done so and I'm so happy now. I don't use OM for commercial interest but my time spent on setup, amount of hair that would be missing on my head, possible divorce and loosing a job for not sleeping at all could hardly be compared to 3,5 EURO PER MONTH I pay for VPS. Everything else is FREE. I don't want to make any advertisements here but I use the very basic one (1x2,4GHz, 2GB RAM, 10GB SSD) from a company which name is 3-letters long, the first one looks like zero, the last one is H and the middle one looks like backslash and forward slash glued together :D And - what is the best for you in this case - you will LEARN A LOT OF NEW THINGS during some time! :) All the best and wish you good luck!!! PS: Maxim + the rest of OM team, you have my deepest sympathies, I admire your great work for this project!!! --- end of emotional block, LOL --- Best regards Tharrrk On 10.8.2017 05:33, Maxim Solodovnik wrote: Unfortunately this is the only first step IP address 192.*** is the address of your local network (created for you by your router) You have skipped the steps: 1) go to you router settings (router web interface, most probably available at 192.168.1.1) 2) find your external IP Check OM is accessible via this IP If not your WiFi router blocks incoming connections on port 80/1935 On Thu, Aug 10, 2017 at 10:53 AM, Richard Pérez <[email protected]> wrote: ¡¡¡GENIUS!!!! :) :) :) :) That did it, at least from my laptop. Chrome is permanently getting stuck, goes on and on and gets nowhere. My antivirus says my startup needs a clean up, too much Sh** moving about in the background and if a pay so much they'll clean it up. I have a Windows XP Laptop, 2.0 GHz, 1.87 GB RAM, 64x2 mobile, where Word opens immediately, my antivirus has never told me he needs to clean up anything and I don't know if it has any other of the issues because I don't use it connected to the Internet except for very specific uses because Microsoft doesn't support it anymore (and no one else for that case). Maybe I'll be throwing this Microsoft 10th bum out of the Window's. Maybe it's this Windows the cause I can't connect due to some configuration intruding where it shouldn't. I have done the tests following your questions. This is what I've got. I'd love to know if anyone using Windows 10 has been able to get Openmeetings running past this point. Case 1) a) I changed port 5080 for port 80 in: \conf\red5.properties and \webapps\openmeetings\public\ config.xml b) I double clicked on red5.bat to run red5. c) I put: were you able to open http://localhost:80/ openmeetings from same machine? > YES, I get into the dashboard http://ext_ip:80/openmeetings from same machine? > NO, Access Error: 404 -- Not Found http://ext_ip:80/openmeetings from external machine? > NO, Access Error: 404 -- Not Found Case 2) In Windows 10: Control Panel (Panel de Control) > Windows Firewall (Firewall de Windows) > Advanced Settings (Configuración Avanzada) > Entry Rules (Reglas de Entrada) Port 80 seems to be open (tell me if you want to see the Exported file with Entry Rules – I don’t understand all the details but port 80 is there). I also created new rules for ports: TCP 5080, UDP 5080, TCP 1935, TCP 8443, TCP 8088, TCP 8081 allowing connection from Domain, Private and Public. Having all this supposedly open (and port 5080 in: \conf\red5.properties and \webapps\openmeetings\public\ config.xml), I have disabled Windows Firewall (Private and Public): I run red5 and once activated I open Chrome and paste the links: were you able to open http://localhost:5080/ openmeetings from same machine? > YES, I get into the dashboard http://ext_ip:5080/ openmeetings from same machine? > NO, ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT (in Chrome), INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND (in IE) http://ext_ip:5080/ openmeetings from external machine? > NO, ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT I disable my antivirus: In the three cases I get the same responses. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ --- Details of Case 1 procedure: http://localhost:80/ openmeetings > transforms to http://localhost/openmeetings in the browser > takes to OM’s login page I enter > http://localhost/openmeetings/ #user/dashboard I go to > Administration > Configuration Where I have the following data (left there from yesterday – my current IP is the same one) application.base.url http://181.myIP:5080/ openmeetings/ In another Chrome window I enter: http://181.myIP/openmeetings/ > Access Error: 404 -- Not Found http://181.myIP:80/ openmeetings/ > Access Error: 404 -- Not Found http://181.myIP:5080/ openmeetings/ > ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT I go to > Administration > Configuration I change: application.base.url http://181.myIP:5080/ openmeetings/ for application.base.url http://181.myIP:80/ openmeetings/ I save, log out, close Chrome window, close red5 window. If I open an IE window and paste: http://localhost:80/ openmeetings > it takes me to the login page. I created a user and logged in with this username and password. It took me to the admin space, but with the name of the user. Now I’m logged-in in Chrome and IE with two different users. If I log-out with user 2, user 1 is still logged-in with Chrome. I also disabled my Antivirus completely. I restarted my Router. I restarted my computer. I entered my new IP into OpenMeetings settings and restarted red5 and OpenMeetings. Checked my Gmail was allowing non secure Apps. Sent an invitation without password to my Laptop connected to the router by cable (it should have the same IP). This didn’t work. My laptop can’t enter the room. If this didn’t work, can’t one infer that my computer is not firewalling entry? Does this mean that the problem either is in the Router (or my Internet service provider) or something else not related to my computer? I’d much appreciate if anyone can tell me what else I can do to find the problem. Thanks. Richard -- WBR Maxim aka solomax -- WBR Maxim aka solomax -- WBR Maxim aka solomax
