Thanks Girish, I got it to work.
Used the command gradlew ofbiz --debug-jvm to start the program in debug mode. Followed step 2 for remote debugging. I was only able to get the remote debug working, not able to follow the instructions for Debugging (or running) OFBiz inside Eclipse. Set up a remote debugger in an IDE of your choice and start it by specifying the remote debug port that it needs to listen to. You should then be able to debug ofbiz without issues.
