Hi

If you are looking to set HADOOP_HOME just for hive, you can do that at 
hive_env.sh .

For your question, yes it is location (hadoop parent dir) where you have 
extracted your tall ball.

One more way.....

add this line to you /etc/environment     file

export HADOOP_HOME=<path of your hadoop folder>
