Thanks Kane, If anyone else is interested in this, I created a Jira ticket : https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-16641 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-16641> but the response is that 3.6 is the minimum official supported version, although 2.7 still should work. This is why the Debian packaging was changed.
