Could you try the following steps? Stop Cassandra. Change authenticator in yaml to PasswordAuthenticator if not already done. Remove data directory with `rm -rf data/system_auth/roles-*` Start Cassandra. Login with `cqlsh -u cassandra -p cassandra`
