In that case, just don't delete the dead node (what I think you should do anyways. I'm pretty sure it can't be deleted if you're going to replace it with "-Dcassandra.replace_address=..."). I was speaking about the case that you _do_ want it replaced. You can just delete it and bootstrap a new node. I would expect the behaviour to be the same.
