Michael, The ask is for letting keep alive be configurable for native transport, with Socket.setKeepAlive. By default, SO_KEEPALIVE is false ( http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/net/StandardSocketOptions.html#SO_KEEPALIVE).
