Hi Apache Beam community,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are currently running Apache Beam 2.61.0 with the Flink Runner on Amazon
Managed Service for Apache Flink (version 1.19, Java 11). We have received a
request to upgrade to Flink 2.2, which now recommends Java 17 as the default
runtime.

While researching the upgrade path, we found GitHub Issue #36947 ([Task]: Flink
2 Support), which indicates that Flink 2.x support in the Beam Flink Runner is
still under development and tracked as a Beam 3.0.0 milestone.

Could you please help us with the following questions?

1. What is the current status of Flink 2.2 support in the Apache Beam Flink
Runner?
Is there an estimated timeline or target Beam release version for official
Flink 2.2 support?

2. When Flink 2.2 support is available, will Java 17 be required as the minimum
runtime?
We currently use Java 11, so understanding whether Java 17 will be mandatory
is important for our upgrade planning.

3. Is there any workaround or interim approach recommended for users who need
to run Apache Beam pipelines on Flink 2.x before official support is released?

Any guidance or pointers to relevant discussions/PRs would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Best regards
