I can ping the xerces list and get them to put the 2.9.0 versions out there. What's the time frame for the next release? Is it imminent? I can work on them to get it out there. Maybe you can just check in the 2.9.0 stuff (xercesImpl.jar, xml-apis.jar, serializer.jar) in the meantime if the next release of Ant-1.7 (final?) is happening soon.
