Subject: Re: Failed to execute task move in Windows
Hi Rhino,
the reason of my problem was the file and path name in Windows is
case-insensitive, that's why Ant failed to move bi.jar to Bi.jar.
It works with following build file.
<project default="test">
<target name="test">
<move file="bi.jar" tofile="_bi.jar" />
<move file="_bi.jar" tofile="Bi.jar" />
</target>
</project>
Yes, I saw Jeffrey's explanation and it solved the problem.
I'm sorry to say that I assumed your problem was more trivial than it
actually was. Since I had given you bad advice, I was trying to do the exact
same rename in my own Ant script but I was having the same problem: the
move/rename was DELETING the file! Luckily, Jeffrey explained the situation
and his solution worked perfectly.
Thanks to Jeffrey's reminder and your warmly help.
I'm sorry to have given you bad advice. I've never done a move task before
but I assumed it would be very simple. I clearly underestimated the ability
of Ant and Windows to make a simple situation more complicated. I see that I
should have actually tried my proposed solution before suggesting it to you!
Again, I'm sorry to waste your time with a bad solution.
And thanks to Jeffrey for catching my mistake so quickly before it wasted
many hours of my time and yours!
There really ought to be a note about this in the Ant manual. I'm sure lots
of people rename files in Windows with the move task!

Sorry, Leon, I'm not sure what you're saying. Is the script working
now,
either with or without the single quotes?
Did you check to make sure that the file name and path name were
exactly
correct? Were they both correct?
I'm sorry to have mentioned the single quotes; they are probably only
going
to be necessary if you are trying to execute a VBScript in the
VBScript
engine or something like that. In your case, you are just renaming a
file so
the single quotes shouldn't be needed.
