Thanks, Fintan, however, scp is a wrapper for sshexec for file transfers. according to the library vendor JSch (JSch.jar), 'SSH File Transfer Protocol version 4' is listed as a to do.
I'm not sure what the advantage of sftp is over ftp over ssh. We may be able to get by with scp.
