You need the Bean Scripting Framework BSF from the Apache Jakarta project. It is what Ant uses to embed scripting languages.

That fixed it! Thank you for this. I was confused in this file:

by the line:
Add the BSF bsf.jar file to ANT_HOME/lib or the classpath.
because the link leads to a dead IBM page.. I (naively) assumed that the latest beanshell download was the one I wanted.
