If building your project is what you are looking for, AntHill and other similar projects are the solution. They take some time to setup/configure, but you'll win a lot in the middle+long run. We now do all our releases through AntHill and it has saved us huge amount of time. There is no time lost into doing sub-releases now. All is full automatic. And we ensure that the release procedure (numbering, tagging, unittesting, ...) is followed to the letter.
