it is  working for me . A  32 uml instance on 64 bit ubuntu lucid .

1. Downloaded 2.632 kernel source .
2. make  ARCH=um SUBARCH=i386
3 .create a filesystem https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UserModeLinux
4. You are ready .
