You should run "/etc/init.d/uml-utilities start" if its not started
(by default, if i dont remember bad its started, so you perhaps then
you change the configuration want a restart instead of start. Look
/etc/default/uml-utilities to see if its starts by default).

You could find more information and some examples in the package
documentation (/usr/share/doc/uml-utilities/) that perhaps could be
useful :)
