Hi Gordon, While this answer may not be what you're looking for, here goes:
I had that issue a few days ago, so I simply went for the 2.6.20 kernel anyway, and patched that with the latest one. For me, it was a safer bet. I did, however, use the 2.6.23 kernel for UML Guests.
