FYI:
I had a seg fault with a UML booting with a cow file, but no problem when a cow file was not used. Anyway looked through the mailing list a week or back and found a similar problem. Jeff had posted the fix (patch) and said the patch was in the 2.6.17 mainline. Added that patch to 2.6.22.1 and that solved the problem. However, the patch obviously was not in 2.6.22.1 mainline (http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/patch-2.6.22.1.bz2 )
