I had same problem with FC7 and kernel 2.6.21.
It used to hang at "VFS: mount root (ext3 filesystem) readonly."

But after applying the patch from mail by jeff, its working fine.

The problem is still persistant in case of Fedora core.
I hope that it will be solved soon.
