Normally you just have less memory; but I remember vaguely that Linux memory 
management tends to misbehave and do odd things when no swap is configured 
(like doing Out Of Memory when actually there is free RAM).

Guess not. Your only problem may be with missing module-init-tools if you use 
modules, but maybe packages are available. Updates may be a problem.
However, newer filesystems are available at the site below.
