Yes. Yes.

I've been using a nptlonly glibc 2.3.x on a Gentoo system for a long time and 
have only once had a real problem with UML (which magically disappeared and 
may not have been connected to NPTL anyway). An UML kernel I built after 
upgrading to glibc 2.4 also runs fine. The guest system is Gentoo using glibc 
2.3.5 with Linuxthreads, though. I haven't vet had the time to also upgrade 
it and see what happens.
