Has anyone considered this?

If cow files were just a little bit more portable it would be possible
to do version control with them.

This would be neat. Especially for complex software systems. It would
integrate the OS with the version control.

eg: need a particular version of a particular library for your app? No
need to add build time checks anymore. Just start version controling
the entire install image.

Are there any ideas about how cow files can be made more portable,
more tolerant of underlying fs changes?
