I've just about credited this to an exhaustion of tmpfs space.  It
happens every single time if I have 2 (or more) uml guests running.  If
it's the only guest running, I don't have any problem.  In the past, I
had enough tmpfs for 4-6 uml instances, but it looks like something in a
recent guest kernel maybe takes more memory.

I started being concerned about tmpfs after I read this thread:
