As confirmed by following mail, DETECT_SOFTLOCKUP doesn't trigger crashes - 
it's just a warning (except that it can trigger deadlocks on the console 
semaphores).

If you have it enabled, make sure to disable "spinlock debugging" and anything 
such... with new kernels (>=2.6.14-rc1), spinlock debugging will make 
spin_lock() actually spin (and lockup) even on UP.
