Sorry, I said the reverse of what I actually meant.

You can find in inittab vc/0 or ttys/0, which are wrong, and you must go back 
to tty0.

tty1 is correct with udev and/or static dev... Revert back the change.

In this case, you have a problem with channel selection - either in the config 
there's none enabled, or the ones which are enabled don't work for some 
reason (for instance, you're using the "xterm" default but you don't have 
xterm installed or X running or DISPLAY set in the env).
