Have you thought that maybe you have a problem exactly because you have _two_ 
programs on _one_ console? Solutions:
a) use con0=tty:/dev/tty8 to have UML on your "F8 virtual console"
b) modify _host_ inittab to comment out the *getty tty2 line and leave it 
free.

a is IMHO nicer.

No idea. But your question is unclear, since it doesn't seem related to UML at
