Hi Folks, i was running UML version 2.6.12.3 on Fedora Core 3 host and things were working fine .
Then i used the same UML version on Fedora Core 4 and it segfaulted . a search on the web indicated that this was likely due to NPTL usage in the new glibc included in gcc ver 4 that comes with FC4. Phill Wombat's email on http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=12917636 and article at http://uml.harlowhill.com/index.php/UML_Fedora_Core_4 suggested ways and workarounds for it , including tweaking files on the UML filesystem image manually etc etc. However when i got hold of latest stable 2.6.13.4 kernel from kernel.org and built UML from it , it boots fine on Fedora Core 4 as well, even though using the exact same UML filesystem image with which old UML kernel was giving problems. what confuses me now is that according to the explanation given by Phil in the email , tihs arrangement should not have worked , since according to Jeff Dike , NPTL changes have not yet made it into the mainstream kernel tree . i am totally at a loss to understand what was causing this problem to begin with , and how is it rectified when using UML version 2.6.13.4 even though no glibc stuff has been changed in the UML filesystem image. thanks in advance for any insights. regads Taha __________________________________ Yahoo!
