Ok, here goes.. I've set up a test result page on:
http://gathering.itm.mh.se/~joepal/uml/
Quick summary is that for unmodified systems there are no surprises. TT
mode works for everything, and SKAS0 crashes as soon as TLS support is
included.
There was one surprise though. I modified the glibc ebuild so that it
build glibc with "--without-tls", and then recompiled the whole guest
system (based on athlon-xp stage3). This didn't help, it just changed the
crash slightly. I thought by removing TLS, things would start to work.
See above link for bootlogs and libc info.
Also, I now have a good infrastructure for running test cases with
different hostkernel/guestkernel/mode/root_fs combos, so suggest more test
cases.

I plan on doing a bit more structured testing and playing-around with
UML+gentoo this weekend. What is the as-of-today best setup for an amd64
machine if I want to run a gentoo guest?
I'm guessing:
host kernel: 2.6.14-rc3 (unpatched)
guest kernel: 2.6.13.3-bs3
Or should I patch the host kernel with something?
There *is* a SKAS patch for x86_64 hosts (not yet released for 2.6.14, but
it's already adapted), but it only works in some cases. Slackware root_fs's,
for instance.
Ah, you're the one who saw that.
News: Antoine Martin uses even newer Slackware root_fs, up to 10.0/10.1 IIRC.
I plan on building a test suite with startup scripts and root_fs's for a
couple of different architectures for the gentoo root, an experimental
root_fs for seeing if I can work around the TLS problems somehow, and the
functional old slackware root for reference.
A test matrix something like:
If you don't patch the host, you can't test skas3
tt skas0 skas3
i386
i686
athlonxp
experimental a-xp
old slackware root
