Disable CONFIG_GPROF. You are running UML in TT mode, and there GPROF
doesn't
work (and later kernels, in fact, refuse this config in the menuconfig
settings).
Note that using SKAS0 mode (i.e. guest version >= 2.6.13) would give you
something much faster.

Now I just compiled a new uml image with kernel version 2.6.13.3, this time
I got a new problem that root fs cannot be mounted.
The following is the error message. I got a "Kernel panic - not syncing:
