Paolo, I had /dev/net/tun as writable (666) and used
the command line with eth0=tuntap<.........>. Could
anything else on my file system in any way be
responsible for this?. I used tunctl to bring up the
host tap0 adapter.. Also I should correct the fact
that the error was SIOCSIFFLAGS not SIOCIFFLAGS as I
had originally posted.

This issuse seems to be the only thing that seems to
be blocking me from UML joy, so any help appreciated
:)
