Why using 2.6.8.1? Use 2.6.12-bs7 which already contains the fix (either is 
it's what I guess it could be, or probably even anyway)...

To get that, you should use the 2.6.12 vanilla tree + 2.6.12-bs7 patch from 
http://www.user-mode-linux.org/~blaisorblade
