Guess it will finish when the terminal is closed, i.e. when the 2nd UML 
exits... don't know if it's possible to force UML to close and reopen the 
terminal.

Actually, when using /dev/pts/ ttys (i.e. con=pts), UML always closes and 
reopens terminals when the login session is closed... possibly the same is 
true here but the difference is the special handling of sessions. Tried 
replacing "echo" with "setsid echo" ?
