Hi All,

I am trying to determine if a UML kernel (2.4.x) running on a 2.6.y host can access a PCMCIA card?

The most recent thread on this that I found in the mail archives was dated 2002 (which said "probably not"), so I was hoping the status had changed/been clarified since then.

In case someone can see a better solution, the problem I am trying to solve is my need to use a PCMCIA card (wireless broadband) for which only a 2.4 compatible driver is available. My thought was to load the driver in a UML kernel, make the connection, and then route between the UML and Host kernel to get internet access.

I do have access to the driver's source, but the changes between 2.4 and 2.6 in the PCMCIA area seem to be quite large and I don't believe I can get the driver working under 2.6 anytime soon.

While the differences between 2.4 to 2.6 seemed relatively small when I was upgrading, they appear much larger when going the other way, and I would dearly like to be running under 2.6 again.

All help and suggestions gratefully accepted.

Cheers!
Nik.
